How to Use

Carrier oils are plant-based oils used to dilute essential oils and "carry" them into the skin for topical application, massage, or hair care. They are generally applied by mixing 1–2 teaspoons of carrier oil with a few drops of essential oil, or used alone to moisturize dry skin, hair, and cuticles.

Key Ways to Use Carrier Oils
  • Diluting Essential Oils: Essential oils are potent and should rarely be applied directly to the skin. Carrier oils dilute them to prevent irritation.
  • Massage Oil: Due to high absorption rates, oils like jojoba, almond, or grapeseed are ideal for massages to relieve tension.
  • Skin Moisturizer: Apply directly to dry skin, elbows, or cuticles for hydration.
  • Hair Treatment: Massage into hair to reduce frizz, increase shine, or act as an overnight hair mask.
  • Makeup Remover: A few drops on a cotton pad can effectively remove makeup.
Safe Dilution Ratios (General Guidelines)
  • For Adults: 2.5% dilution = 15 drops of essential oil per 6 teaspoons (30ml) of carrier oil. For facial applications, use a lower 1% dilution.
  • For Children/Sensitive Skin: 0.5% to 1% dilution = 3 to 6 drops of essential oil per 6 teaspoons of carrier oil.
Popular Carrier Oils and Their Uses
  • Jojoba Oil: Similar to skin's natural sebum, excellent for acne-prone or oily skin.
  • Sweet Almond Oil: A popular, light, all-purpose oil for skin and hair.
  • Argan Oil: Nourishing, often used for hair to boost shine and reduce frizz.
Essential Safety Tips
  • Patch Test: Before widespread use, apply a small amount to your inner wrist, cover with a bandage, and wait 24 hours to check for reactions.
  • Nut Allergies: If allergic to nuts, avoid almond, argan, or apricot kernel oils.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dark place, as they can go rancid after 6–12 months.
  • Not for Diffusers: Do not use carrier oils in diffusers, as they can cause malfunction.
